It was announced on Nov. 4th that the University of Redlands men’s tennis team landed among the elite of Division III programs by coming in at No.16 on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA)/Campbell’s Preseason Rankings.
Following last year’s 15-11 performance, the Bulldogs anticipate the return of four All-Conference honorees in seniors Cameron Spearman (Dana Hills HS), & Kevin Wong (Kaneohe, HI), graduate student Jeff Hammond (Mercer Island, WA), & rookie standout Anish Nanda (Cerritos, CA). In addition, sophomore Mark Bloom (Dana Hills HS) is competing for a starting spot on the squad.
As in years past, Redlands takes on a challenging Division III schedule, which includes No. 2 Amherst College (MA), No. 4 Emory University (GA), & No. 5 UC Santa Cruz, within a seven-day period. The Hartford women's tennis teams came into its match at Holy Cross looking to finish their fall dual match schedules on an upswing, and they did just that as they emerged victorious. Hartford's women came back from a 3-1 early deficit to win, 4-3, when Kaitlin Lennon won the final match on the court 6-3, 6-2. Hartford got off to a slow start as they dropped the doubles point, and only No. 2 freshman Katina Zampas (Capo Valley Christian HS) earned a victory in the first three singles matches to wrap up. Zampas earned a 6-2, 6-3 win from the second position to get the Hawks on the board, leaving them down 3-1 with three matches to play.
The women are 2-2, with wins over St. Francis (NY) and Holy Cross. Coach Michael Raymond hopes these wins and the off-season training program will help boost them forward into the spring season. Next match is February 26 against University of Rhode Island in East Hartford CT.
